Sleepy Hollow
In “Sleepy Hollow” Season 4, episode 3, Diana (Janina Gavankar) learned that her daughter is the next witness. Tina Rowden/Fox

Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow” is slowly but surely finding its footing without lieutenant Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie). Last episode, Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and Jenny Mills (Lyndie Greenwood) learned that Homeland Security Agent Diana Thomas’ (Janina Gavankar) daughter Molly (Oona Yaffe) is the next witness. She inherited Abbie’s responsibilities.

What happened this week in “Sleepy Hollow”?

Ichabod and Diana went up against the Headless Horseman, who traveled from Sleepy Hollow to Washington, D.C. because he wanted the President of the United States’ head. The heads of states are supposed to have magical properties.

The Headless Horseman arrives in Washington and goes after the POTUS. However, his attack is thwarted by some mystical barrier. Ichabod first breaks the news about the Headless Horseman to Diana. He informs her that the Horseman is his nemesis and the two have a history together.

Diana can get Ichabod to the crime scene but not Alex Norwood (Rachel Melvin) and Jake Wells (Jerry MacKinnon). Luckily, Jake mapped the tunnels underneath the vault and they lead directly under the crime scene. So, while Ichabod and Diana investigate the crime scene on the street, Alex, Jake and Jenny investigate it underground. The team finds many ancient runes on the floor of the underground tunnel. There are Mayan, Egyptian and Sumerian symbols etched on the walls of the tunnel. This is what kept the Horseman away from axing the President.

Ichabod remembers that Benjamin Banneker had mapped a town like this way back in the 18th century. But wait a minute! Jake knows everything about Banneker since he is his hero. He has read everything there is about the revolutionary war hero and his work. None of them involved panning a city. Also, all of Banneker’s papers were destroyed in a fire in the 19th century. What is Ichabod hiding?

It is at this point that Ichabod finally tells them the truth: He is a man out of time. Ichabod tells them how he was in George Washington’s army and how he met Banneker. Washington wanted him to join the war effort but Banneker was more concerned about abolishing slavery. When the Captain tried to persuade Banneker, he entered his workshop and saw him drawing these runes.

Jenny remembers that all of Banneker’s papers didn’t get destroyed in the fire. One folio was auctioned off in the black market to none other than tech billionaire Malcolm Dreyfuss (Jeremy Davies). Diana and Ichabod meet Malcolm and ask him for the folio. He lets them borrow it but is sure to mention a supernatural J street in Washington. This J street can be opened by saying the runes out loud. Ichabod and Diana lure the Horseman to the street while Alex, Jenny and Jake open the door and trap him in it.

While researching on how to stop the Horseman using runes, Diana realizes that Molly drew Ichabod’s picture before she met him. Worse, when Jenny mentions that she and Abbie saw four white trees in the woods, Diana checks Mollys’ drawing book and finds a drawing of those exact trees. She confronts Ichabod and he has no choice but to tell her that her daughter is the next witness.

Diana asks Ichabod and his team to stay away from Molly. “You cannot escape this,” he chimes. “Watch me,” Diana replies. Good luck!

Meanwhile, Malcolm enters J street and makes an offer to the Horseman: If he works for him and he will give him the President and Ichabod’s head.

“Sleepy Hollow” Season 4, episode 3 ended with the former English professor assembling an Ikea furniture when he hears a floorboard creak in the closet. He checks his boots and notices a small pool of a substance he accidentally stepped on in J street. The pool becomes bigger and a weird alien-like creature steps out of it and latches unto Crane’s face. This is not good. Watch the ending below:
