so you think you can dance Season 12 renewed

“So You Think You Can Dance” was renewed for Season 12 on Fox, Entertainment Weekly reports, which is a relief to fans. Many viewers were concerned that “So You Think You Can Dance” would be canceled after co-creator and judge Nigel Lythgoe told his Twitter followers that the show was in danger.

The show still suffered from low ratings throughout Season 11, but it survived. "SYTYCD" was renewed for Season 12 -- but the renewal comes at a price. The format of "So You Think You Can Dance" will change. It seems that Fox hopes a new twist will bring in viewers during the 2015 season -- teams. Dancers who prove that their skills are in contemporary, ballet, jazz or tap will be placed on the Stage Team. Meanwhile, “SYTYCD” hopefuls who show their expertise in hip-hop, animation or breaking will be on the Street Team.

Each team will have an All-Star Mentor, and their mentors will work with the judges to eliminate people until each team has 10 dancers, together creating the “SYTYCD” Top 20. When each team has 10 dancers, the show will go live and viewers will be included in the voting process as usual.

“The competition is going to be much more exciting for viewers and even more demanding for the dancers,” Lythgoe said in a press release. “Dancers from different genres have always been competitive with each other and we’ve found a great way to harness that to bring out the absolute best performances in the best dancers across the country.”

“So You Think You Can Dance” Season 12 starts in summer 2015. If die-hard fans need a fix before then, they can watch the Season 11 cast (including winner Ricky Ubeda) perform live while on tour through February.
