A 25-year-old female Somali journalist was shot and killed in the nation’s capital, Mogadishu, on Sunday evening.

Two armed men killed Rahmo Abdulqadir Farah, who worked for central Somalia’s Abudwak radio, the media outlet's director told the Associated Press.

"Somalia continues to be one of the most dangerous places in the world for journalists to operate. This negative picture needs to change," Augustine Mahiga, the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia, told the U.N. News Service, condemning the attack and demanding that law enforcement take action.

Farah is the third journalist killed in Somalia in 2013. Last year, 18 media professionals were killed.

Somalia has witnessed more than two decades of civil conflict. The country made strides in August and formed its first formal parliament and appointed a new president and prime minister, the U.N. News Service reports.

Last month, Somalia’s Prime Minister, Abdi Farah Shirdon, launched a human rights task force to combat what he called “a culture of impunity,” AllAfrica.com reports.

Although the government has promised to take action against those who kill journalists, AP reported that so far no arrest have been made for any of the journalist deaths in 2012.

In a statement, Mahiga said Somilia has moved to a “new era," where freedom of expression is protected, especially for vulnerable groups including journalists.
