Sons of Anarchy season 7 spoilers
Kurt Sutter teases how brutal the final season of "Sons of Anarchy" will really be. Michael Becker/FX

“Sons of Anarchy” has been shocking fans with jaw-dropping drama since the hit FX series first aired in 2008. But now that the seventh and final season will be airing beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 10 p.m. EDT, viewers are questioning just how big of a bang Kurt Sutter will go out on. Should fans anticipate the bloodiest season to date when Season 7 premieres? Well, the mastermind behind the motorcycle drama teased the answer in an interview with TV Guide.

As we all know, Season 6 ended on a horrific note with the murder of Tara. Ugh, we can still hear the crunching of Gemma’s carving fork being stabbed into the skull of Jax’s wife. But according to Sutter, there’s no way he’ll ever be able to top that grisly moment in the upcoming series -- nor does he want to.

"I don't think anything we've ever done has been inorganic [or] unbelievable in terms of heightened circumstances and the players involved," Sutter responded to a question regarding the show’s violent content. "It's not that my goal is to disturb people, but I want that reaction when beloved characters go away. I want people to be upset. When Opie was killed, people [expletive] hated me. They didn't stop watching, but they were upset -- they had lost a friend. That to me means you're writing characters that are relatable, believable and people want to show up for each week. Which means, quite frankly, I'm doing my job."

So, if Season 7 won’t be as bloody as the sixth then what should we anticipate from the upcoming installment? According to reports, not even Sutter knows! The creator revealed although he has a “sense of where” he wants to take the series, he’s learned “the looser I grip that idea, the better the seasons are.”

“This season isn't any different. I came in with how I wanted the season to end and we're heading in that direction, but things change. Always been headed in the same direction, but the way I'm getting there continuously changes,” he replied.

While Sutter gave fans a vague tease of what’s to come, Charlie Hunnam, who plays the lead role of Jax, gave us something to quench our SAMCRO-thirst.

"Jax is in a very schizophrenic state," Hunnam told reporters at the Television Critics Association. "He's obviously very sad and vulnerable and broken with this huge amount of revenge and anger in his heart."

And why shouldn’t he be? The mother of his child had just been viciously killed -- by his own mom! But Jax doesn’t know that, yet. Apparently Gemma plans to keep her monstrous secret quiet as possible for long as she can.

“She is somewhat duplicitous at this point -- not even somewhat," Katey Sagal said. "What's coming out of her mouth and what's going on in her brain are two different things. She has adjusted to the situation based on her basic instinct, which is to survive and keep her family together. That hasn't changed."
