After countless rumors and a few hands-on reports, the Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play likely didn't need an official confirmation. But last night, one came.

The Xperia Play made its worldwide debut via a Super Bowl television spot. Today, Sony Ericcson took that a bit further, posting on its Facebook page a clock counting down to the Xperia Play's official release: Feb. 13. The date coincides with this year's Mobile World Congress, set to begin Feb. 14th in Barcelona, Spain.

Called the smartphone with everything you need and the one thing you want the Xperia play is Android 2.2-based and gaming focused. Little about its game offerings has been announced, however.

Below is the Xperia Play's Super Bowl advertisement, which strongly emphasizes the device's connection to to Google's Android operating system.
