NEW DELHI - Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson will phase out activities in some of its locations worldwide, as part of a cost reduction programme, the company said in a statement.

The company, owned by Sweden's Ericsson and Japan's Sony Corp, said it was continuing with its business transformation programme as announced earlier and main aim was to return to profitability as soon as possible.

Sony Ericsson had said in April it planned to slash 2,000 jobs this year after shedding a similar number in 2008. (Reporting by Devidutta Tripathy; Editing by Ranjit Gangadharan)
