Sony is expected to launch tablet PCs with multimedia functionalities in the second quarter of 2011, Digitimes reported citing industry sources.

The tablet is expected to run on Google's Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) operating system and will enable digital games, music and e-book reading, said the sources, noting that the tablet already has received PlayStation verification.

Sony is likely to outsource production to Quanta Computer, Digitimes said.

Quanta said its shipments of tablet PCs are likely to reach several million units in 2011, the report added.
