Sony is reportedly gearing up to release a new Xperia flagship smartphone for 2015. The device is believed to be the international version of the recently launched Xperia Z4. Apparently, two special press events have been scheduled for May 27 in Taiwan and May 28 in Hong Kong for the launch. During the event, Sony will also unveil the long-awaited midrange Xperia C4 and the Xperia Z4 Tablet, according to the Xperia Blog.

Speaking of 2015 flagship, Sony introduced the Xperia Z4 smartphone in April, specific to home-country Japan. However, the tech giant reportedly hinted that a global version of the Z4 will be introduced toward the end of May. Therefore, the scheduled press events for the end of May corroborate the imminent Xperia Z4 release, says Phone Arena. To top it off, the website ePrice Taiwan also suggests that Sony will showcase an international version of the Xperia Z4.

According to ePrice, the new international version will be called Sony Xperia Z3+ or Xperia Z3 Plus. In any case, there is no official confirmation available to ascertain whether there would be any hardware configuration changes in the global version compared to the Japan-exclusive model. But then, technically, the recently introduced Xperia Z4 is not entirely different from last year’s Xperia Z3. The built-in configurations apparently sound more like a refreshed version of the Z3. However, the handset is relatively thinner than the predecessor and superior in power because of the housed octa-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 810) processor.

As far as availability in the United States goes, the global version of the Sony Xperia Z4, aka Xperia Z3+, will reportedly be launched by Verizon Wireless. Availability outside the U.S. is unknown at this point.

In the meantime, here is a list of key Sony Xperia Z4 smartphone specifications seen in the Japanese version. The handset features a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display bundled with 1,080 x 1,920 pixels screen resolution. Under the hood, it runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS and comes backed by a solid 3GB of RAM. Furthermore, the smartphone comes equipped with 32GB or 64GB of internal storage capacity, along with microSD card support for further expansion.

As for the camera, the Xperia Z4 sports a killer 20.7 MP rear-facing unit with LED flash and HDR. In addition, there is also a gracious 5.1 MP front-facing snapper for selfies. Moreover, the Xperia Z4 is IP 68 certified and, therefore, the handset is dust- and waterproof.

Meanwhile, the whole configuration is powered by an Li-Ion 2,930 mAh nonremovable battery unit. Plus, the device comes with rapid-charging capability. This means the battery unit can apparently be charged from 0 percent to 60 percent in 30 minutes.
