The South African rand edged higher to 9.3005 against the US dollar during Friday's early Asian deals. This set the highest point for the rand since January 7, 2009. Thereafter, the South African currency reversed its direction and slipped to 9.4458 versus the greenback at 2:20 pm ET. The next downside target level for the rand is seen around 9.82.
