Ahn Byung Chan the director general at the South Korean Central Bank said in a statement that the latest gain for the South Korean won against other currencies was excessive so the authorities will have to interfere to stop the won's gains. Chan also added that the government is having the same point of view.

The won gained 8% against its American counterpart during the second quarter to become the best performing Asian currency against the dollar which is affecting the nation's exports badly so economic growth is also affected, having in mind that the South Korean economy expanded 2.6% in the second quarter.
