Stocks extended gains on Wednesday, with the S&P and Nasdaq up more than 1 percent, after data showed pending home sales rose to a six-month high in a boost to the fragile economic recovery.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 83.66 points, or 0.83 percent, at 10,107.68. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was up 11.05 points, or 1.03 percent, at 1,081.76. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 23.87 points, or 1.07 percent, at 2,246.20.
