Retail sales in Spain dropped 11.7% year-on-year in February, faster than a 6.2% fall in January, the statistical office INE said Tuesday. Economists expected a decline of 6.5%.

During the month, retail sales of food declined 10.1%, while sales of non-food items fell 12.6%.

Adjusting for calendar effects, retail sales dropped 9.1% annually in February.
