Thursday, a flash estimate from Spain's National Institute of Statistics or INE showed a 0.1% fall in the harmonized index of consumer prices in April. The decline matched economists' expectations.

The final HICP data for April is due on May 13.

The index had declined 0.1% in March, marking the first drop since 1961 and Spain became the first nation in the EU 16 to report a year-on-year slide in consumer prices.
