It seems as though the weekend summit brought a solution to the Ukraine-Russia gas dispute. At the same time, it has become obvious that the dispute is not only about gas prices and transit fees or some technical issues, but also about long-term strategic considerations. In the attached report, we provide an overview of competing strategies to supply gas and oil from Asia to Europe. Thus, while it seems likely that Russian gas will start to flow to Europe again soon, the topic of energy supply should stay with us for some time to come.
