Spider-Man may have been the most controversial addition to “Captain America: Civil War.” With audiences already jaded by the third reboot in less than 15 years, they were quick to criticize the web-slinger when the trailer came out. However, that didn’t keep them from going to see the new movie. Audiences revealed their real feelings on Twitter, and they didn’t hold back.

It looks like moviegoers have overwhelmingly positive things to say about the new Spider-Man. Some of the most common compliments were about how the character was very true to the comics. At 19 years old, Tom Holland is a more youthful Peter Parker than previous incarnations. He seems just as insecure as a teen superhero should be, and he has a great sense of humor.

Spider-Man’s youth is emphasized in “Civil War.” From double-checking with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) about what he’s supposed to do, to needing his Aunt May ( Marisa Tomei) to get him an ice pack, it’s clear that Peter is still a boy. Even Captain America (Steve Rogers) questions his age. As previously reported, that was exactly what Holland wanted to accomplish.

“I think our main difference is trying to make Peter feel like a kid and in the film you see a kid reacting to meeting the Avengers for the first time,” Holland told HeyUGuys last month. “I think that’s one of the things people love about these films is seeing real life occurrences happen in these crazy films and that’s exactly what happens to Peter in his house.”

But the new Spider-Man is also smart and ambitious. Aunt May believes it’s entirely possible Tony would show up on their doorstep because Peter won a grant for something. He admits to dumpster diving for computers to work with. He is clearly driven and motivated. When Tony pulls him out of the fight, his first instinct is not to quit. Despite not being the main focus of the movie, directors Joe and Anthony Russo managed to make a solid character that people really seem to love. Judging from Twitter, it looks like plenty of people will line up to see “Spider-Man: Homecoming” in 2017.

Though no matter what, not everyone will agree with the majority. A few people were vocal about their dislike for the new Spider-Man.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” hits theaters July 6, 2017.
