Fresh Express and Wegmans have issued separate recalls for spinach: a recall on Fresh Express bagged Spinach and Wegmans Spinach & Spring Mix. FDA

Fresh Express issued a voluntary, precautionary recall Wednesday for its Fresh Express bagged Spinach for a possible Salmonella risk. Wegmans also issued a separate recall for its store brand Spinach & Spring Mix for a possible e.Coli contamination.

Fresh Express

The recall on Wednesday was issued by Fresh Express with the FDA after isolated instances in which random samples of the spinach yielded a positive result for Salmonella.

No illnesses have been reported in the Fresh Express spinach recall and no other products manufactured by fresh Express have been affected.

The spinach was possible sold in as many as 18 states including: Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Retailers have removed the recalled products from supermarket shelves by request of Fresh Express.

Customers should contact Fresh Express customer service representative if they have a recalled bagged spinach at (800) 242-5472 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

  • Product Being Recalled: Fresh Express Spinach in 9 oz. package
  • Product Code: S299B25 (located in upper right corner on front of package)
  • Use-by Date: November 7 (also located in upper right hand corner of package)
  • Distribution: Primarily in the Western region of the U.S.

Wegmans

According to the FDA, Wegmans also recalled 5 and 11-ounce packages of Wegmans store brand Organic Spinach & Spring Mix sold in its stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts between October 14 and November 1. New York State officials linked the Wegmans spinach, provided by State Garden, Inc. of Chelsea, Massachusetts, to E.coli O157:H7.

There have been 16 reported illnesses in New York from E.coli O157 H:7, which can cause a diarrhea. Testing has shown on products with a use-by-date of Oct. 23 have been contaminated but officials recalled products from Oct. 14 to Nov. 1 as a precaution.

Officials at Wegmans say customers should throw away any of th products recalled and visit the service desk for a refund. Wegmans Consumer Affairs can be contacted at 1-800-WEGMANS (934-6267), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
