The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition 2012 will be revealed Monday night on CBS' The Late Show with David Letterman. Many speculate that supermodel Kate Upton will take the coveted spot.

Kate Upton's fame has skyrocketed this year. From a stunning ad campaign with Beach Bunny Swimwear to rumors she is dating one of the hottest quarterbacks in New York (Mark Sanchez), it is no surprise Kate Upton's fame might land her the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover for 2012.

All I can really say is that I'm in the issue, Upton told The New York Post's Page Six. According to the column, Kate Upton's blonde, all-American good looks have placed her as a top contender.

The bombshell was chosen to open New York Fashion Week 2012 on Wednesday in NYC's Lincoln Center with Super Bowl champion, Giants star Victor Cruz, who just signed with IMG. Upton was also named the Grand Marshal for the Daytona 500. She will also be featured in a Carl's Jr. commercial, which has starred other pin-ups like Kim Kardashian, Audriana Patridge and Paris Hilton.

This year, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition was photographed in the Florida Gulf. Models went to Apalachicola, Fla. to photograph the drool-worthy issue in a spot hard-hit since the BP oil spill. The photo shoot will surely but Florida back in the limelight and show the world that it is still a thriving, and beautiful, tourist locale.

It took us a couple days to master saying it, Diane Smith, SI Swimsuit Edition editor, told USA Today. We thought we can do some good for our country, really help a region that needs to be showcased, says Smith.

Kate Upton might be the rumored top contender but other models are certainly in the running. Newcomers include Cintia Dicker, Genevieve Morton Jessica Gomes and Hilary Rhoda. Potential repeat covergirls include Irina Shayk, Bar Refaeli and Brooklyn Decker. Though a repeat is unlikely, it is possible. Elle Macpherson covered the SI Swimsuit Edition three years in a row -- 1986, 1987 and 1988.
