Manchester United Transfer News: Glazers Authorize Mega £50m Deal For Edison Cavani From Napoli Plus Thiago Bid
In a surprise move which will stoke up the fires of the Wayne Rooney controversy, it has just emerged that the Glazers family are ready to back the new manager in a massive £50m bid for Cavani from Napoli. This would appear to rule out any successful bid for a return to Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo and furthermore casts further doubt over the future of Wayne Rooney.
Manchester United are awash with cash at the moment after their successful title campaign last season and the new television deal now coming into force. They have also had a massively successful year as regards sponsorship and merchandising deals. All of this means that the Glazers are happy to back their new manager with a massive deal for a marquee player to underline their determination to continue United`s domination of the Premier League, especially after their rivals are also splashing the cash.
This bid is independent from the deal to bring Thiago Alcantra from Barcelona for around £15m. The Thiago deal is one which was started originally by Sir Alex Ferguson and new manager, David Moyes, shares his vision of bringing in younger players of high quality whatever the cost.
As most of the major sports throughout enjoy a well deserved off-season break, we can focus on the debate as to who are the top sportsmen alive today. There have been outstanding displays of athleticism during the past 18 months from each of the individuals mentioned in this list.
Here are the top ten male athletes in the world today, in my humble opinion.
10. Jon Jones (UFC):
Jon 'Bones' Jones is widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound athlete currently competing in any mixed martial arts organization. The UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion has destroyed his opposition over the last 18 months, as he has done throughout his time in the octogon. He is the youngest champion in UFC history and, at only 25 years of age, promises to get even better.
Now that some time has elapsed, we look back, to the Miami Heat’s epic game 7, victory over a determined San Antonio Spurs team. Reflecting back further; five . . ., six . . ., seven . . ., NBA titles James called out; the Miami Heat has won their second consecutive National Basketball Association championship title on their third consecutive run to the NBA finals. “THE DECISION” announcement by Lebron James made over three years ago was very Decisive. King James along with Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade, Miami’s Big Three, are delivering on what Lebron James promised upon entering his union with the Miami Heat.
The Heat, Spurs’ game 7 score, 95-88, is not indicative of what truly happen in game 7, or the entire series. The Miami Heat came within literally inches of not being in the position they find themselves in today, two-time NBA champions.
The San Antonio Spurs started their pursuit of a fifth NBA championship under Popovich and Duncan, by winning game one, after coming off a 9-10 day break between their 4-2 series with the Memphis Grizzlies before playing The Miami Heat in the finals.
The Chicago Bulls hold the 20th overall pick in Thursday night’s NBA draft, and the team has no shortage of concerns that the selection could be used to address. From the near-certain free-agent departure of playoff hero Nate Robinson to the perpetual quest for shooters around Derrick Rose, the Bulls have plenty of directions they could go with the pick.
Based on the group of players likely to remain on the board when the Bulls make their choice, these three are the most promising for Chicago’s future:
1. Shabazz Muhammad, UCLA
It’s kind of amazing that the Bulls have any shot at the player who entered college as the No. 2-ranked freshman in the country (trailing only probable top pick Nerlens Noel). However, Muhammad’s stock has already slid as far as the late lottery by many projections, so it would only take another few spots to leave him available to Chicago.
For the better part of the last week the Celtics and Clippers attempted to the point of exhaustion to work out a trade that would send Celtics head coach Doc Rivers and forward Kevin Garnett to the Clippers. Trying to get Rivers and Garnett was reportedly an attempt by the Clippers to appease soon-to-be free agent point guard Chris Paul, who wants to be coached by Rivers. But, with the deal seemingly dead after a report on Friday that Rivers informed the Clippers that he is no longer a candidate, it appears the possibility of Paul being coached by Rivers won’t be happening anytime soon.
