5 College Football Games To Watch This Weekend

1.       #3 Georgia vs.  #2 Alabama @ Georgia Dome

Aaron Murray and the third ranked Georgia Bulldogs with take on the #2 team in the nation, the Crimson Tide. The winner of this game will be playing in the BCS National Championship game in Miami against Notre Dame.  Biggest factor? The quarterbacks in this game going up against top defenses. Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray is leading the nation in quarterback rating at 177.1 but will face the toughest defense of all of college football in Alabama. Alabama gives up just 9.3 points per game so look for Murray to struggle in the early goings. On the other side, Crimson Tide quarterback A.J McCarron is ranked 2nd in the nation in QB rating just below Murray at 176.3. McCarron will be going up against the 16th ranked defense allowing 17.7 points per game. Two top quarterbacks going against two of the top defenses. This game will be a dandy. Kickoff will take place at 4 E.T on Saturday.

2.       # 16 UCLA at #8 Stanford

The Bruins will take on the Stanford Cardinals tomorrow night in Northern California for a second straight week. Last week was a regular season conference game in Los Angeles and the Cardinals beat UCLA 35-17. However, this game will mean even 10 times more. The winner of this game will be playing in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena to try and bring back a BCS bowl game victory. If UCLA wants to win this game, they are going to have to play more with discipline because last weekend the Bruins had a 12 penalties for 135 yards. That was a huge factor because UCLA turned drives way harder than they should have been and it cost them. I am not saying UCLA would have won the game if they didn’t commit all those penalties, but they definitely would have been within 10. UCLA also will need to find an answer for Cardinals senior running back Stepfan Taylor who had 142 yards and 2 touchdowns last game. Kickoff will be at 8 E.T tomorrow night.

3.       #12 Nebraska vs. Wisconsin @ Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis

The winner of this game will be playing either Stanford or UCLA in the Rose Bowl on New Years Day. Nebraska has won six in a row and are ranked 12th in the nation compared to Wisconsin who has been struggling of late losing 3 of their last 4 games. The Badgers shouldn’t even be playing in this game as they finished in third place in the Big 10-Leaders division at 4-4 in conference play only beating teams with losing records. However, because undefeated Ohio State and 6-2 Penn State are on probation, Wisconsin gets the chance to go back to the rose bowl for the second straight season. Last year, Wisconsion lost to Oregon by one touchdown and look to try and win it again this year. Key players to watch in this game are running back Montee Ball for Wisconsion and quarterback Taylor Martinez for Nebraska. Nebraska was not in a BCS bowl last year and this will be their first one since 2002 in which they lost to Miami 37-14.

4.       # 18 Texas at # 6 Kansas State

Both teams are coming off a loss in their last game which put Texas out of any BCS bowl contention and put Kansas State out of the National Championship game contention. This game is a must win for Kansas State because they are still BCS bowl elgible and most likely will end up in the Fiesta Bowl. Texas on the other hand will look to stay in third place in the Big-12 which would get them a good bowl game still such as the Cotton Bowl.  Key players to watch in this game are Texas Joe Bergerson with 16 touchdowns and quarterback Collin Klien for Kansas State with 14 passing and 20 rushing touchdowns. Kickoff is 8 E.T.

5.       #21 Northern Illinois vs. # 17 Kent State @Detroit

Kent State still has a chance to make a BCS bowl game if they happen to win this game even though they are in a small school conference. Both teams are 11-1 on the season and only losses coming from a team out of conference. Kent state has an outstandind rushing attack with both running backs, Dri Archer and Treyion Durham rushing for 1000+ yards.  Not to mention each of them have 14 touchdowns also. However it may be difficult for these running backs to get going because NIU’s defense is 15th in the country with points against. This game will take place tomorrow night at 7 E.T.
