Arsenal have provided a good account of themselves in the absence of their star striker, Robin Van Persie who was off to Manchester United in the summer. Although the goals have not flown from the Gunners, they have put in some good performances. The likes of Lucas Podolski and especially Santi Cazorla have given much joy to fans. Critics have been gushing over Cazorla who is amongst the most effective playmakers in Europe at the moment, in terms of chances created.
Before the Arsenal game, Norwich City had only managed one clean-sheet all season and Arsenal had scored in all games from September onwards. Add to that, the fact that Arsenal had yet to taste defeat at Carrow Road since 1984 and the goals that this fixture has produced in the past, Norwich City fans would focus on damage limitation.
What happened at Carrow Road was beyond the imagination of Arsenal fans in some ways. The Canaries won 1-0 and hopes came crashing for the Gunners. Grant Holt scored for Norwich City, a habit he is fast making his own, of scoring against big teams, like Chelsea before. The reaction of Chris Hughton said it all. "It's been a long time coming, there have been performances that warranted it but this division is unforgiving and unless you're able to score more goals than the opposition then it doesn't come".
Arsene Wenger admitted that the downfall may have been triggered because his players underestimated the difficulty of their opponents. A dangerous route to take, considering that Arsenal had begun to look real good off late. They were expected to take three point off this game. The match against Chelsea at home was lost and Wenger needs to make sure that these winnable games are won in due earnest.
As usual, Arsenal shared lion's possession at 62% to Norwich's 38% but the lack of decisive final touch hurt them again. The cries of Van Persie were back to haunt them. Olivier Giroud, the Frenchman scored for France against Spain recently, but his goal scoring run for Arsenal has left much to be desired. Gervinho looked out of joy on the flanks again and injury to super-sub Walcott has done them no good either.
Wenger has to get out of a defensive mentality everytime Arsenal lose. If this is going to be the season that Arsenal win trophy/ies, Wenger has to concentrate on scoring points even at the cost of their beautiful football.
