With the January transfer window fast approaching, its time to take a look at the players that are most likely to be on Wenger’s “January sales” shopping list.
First thing first, it is clear that the real downfall of Arsenal’s season so far is their in-ability to hold off attacks, they have been consistently conceding weak goals, they simply haven’t had the depth to hold off these strenuous advances. I think the most important player to come in this winter would have to be a defender, or a defensive minded player.
On the other hand however, it would be fruitless to ignore the serious lack of scoring ability in the team. Of course there is the additions of Podolski and Giroud. Although Podolski made a strong star to the season, he has, in recent games at least, failed to “deliver the goods” as it were.
In my opinion, the current Arsenal side is not one that is able to contend for the title, and to achieve what every Arsenal fan wants, serious changes will have to be made with the set-up of the Gunners army.
One player I would love to see don’ing the red and white shirt come January, is Real Madrid youngster Jose Rodriguez, the 17-year-old has played 156 minutes for the Madrid first-team, and is tipped to have a great future in the game by Mourinho.
He has recently signed a contract extension which includes a £9,000,000 buy-out cause, although Rodriguez reportedly turned down a five year deal with Arsenal in October 2011, he still features heavily on Arsene Wenger’s radar. Rodriguez, although very young, shows great promise and Madrid will be reluctant to lose him such as they lost Juan Mata and Roberto Soldado to Chelsea and Valencia respectively.
Mohamed Diame, the Senegal international has been a ground-breaking success since joining West Ham on a free transfer in the summer. It has been reported by multiple reliable sources that Arsenal are likely to make advances for the Hammer’s star man in January, as his release clause is said to be around £4 million.
While West Ham boss would love to keep him at Upton Park, this clause means a whole host of clubs will be looking to snap him up in the approaching transfer window. The 25-year-old, although not of the standards of say Cazorla, can only get better with experience, and if Arsenal were to snatch him up now, he could hold a hunny-pot for the future.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar – ex Arsenal man van Persie’s international strike partner- is set to be swooped by Wenger in January, according to French newspaper L’Equipe. The dutch striker, who has bagged 58 goals in 68 games for Bundesliga side Schalke, has just 6 months remaining on his contract, after which he can leave under the Bosman ruling.
It’s reported that Wenger is prepared to pay £4 million for the former Ajax and Real Madrid striker, and it’s said that he is keen on a move to the Premier League.
