As we approach the opening of the official transfer window, hopefully we can see the end of the phoney transfer war! It seems to be a competition between our anachronistic press hacks to concoct the most outrageous stories to make headlines, thereby selling newspapers. However, whilst this does happen to an extent in other countries, nobody, it seems is as good as telling outright lies as our press.
The latest hot off the press is the story by the Daily Mirror today that Arsene Wenger has made a £20m bid for Wayne Rooney. Any true Arsenal fan will know straightaway that Wenger never makes public, his transfer dealings; he even stated this recently in a press conference with the UK media.
I am fortunate that I have a good source from within United ; my friend`s son plays in the youth team. As far as I am aware, Wayne Rooney does not want to leave Old Trafford at all; he wants a new deal to see his career out at Manchester United. He is already a top earner and will probably get a new deal with some add-ons; after all, this will be his last contract.
David Moyes starts officially tomorrow at Old Trafford, but I can tell you that he has already been in contact with Rooney. It will now be left to the agents and United financial team to thrash out a deal. Stories that Chelsea is making a counter bid are also in the realms of Mickey Mouse. United would rather see him go abroad or anywhere else except Chelsea, so you can all forget about that one.
On a more realistic note, Arsenal is trying to snatch another Barcelona starlet - Paraguayan youngster Antonio Sanabria. The 17-year-old is one of the jewels in Barca's youth set-up and he further enhanced his reputation with some fine displays at the Under-20 World Cup. Wenger seems to have a liking for Barcelona youngsters and will be making enquiries about the player as soon as next week.
