According to reports in the Independent, Arsenal are prepared to sell Bacary Sagna in the summer and are considering French Ligue 1 champions, Montpellier defender, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa as a potential replacement.
The 29-year-old, French right-back who joined Arsenal in 2007 from Auxerre in a €11m deal only has a year left on his contract which expires in 2014 and has been rumoured to leave the London club with parties such as Inter Milan rumoured to be interested in the French international.
Manager, Arsene Wenger stated in September 2012 that Sagna wouldn't leave the club, “Bacary loves the club and I think he will stay here." However, with a dip in form and concerns about his fitness as Sagna enters his thirties soon, there is a possibility of a departure.
There were also rumours that Sagna had been unhappy with a reported contract offer from Arsenal and was departing soon by submitting a transfer request. Sagna however quashed these rumours later, speaking to L'Equipe, stating that 'he wasn't going to leave the club in January but doesn't know what will happen in the summer.'
Sagna will be 30 by the time the season is over and with Arsenal being interested in 23-year-old Yanga-Mbiwa for a while now, the rumours make sense as the Montpellier captain can not only play at right-back but across the defense as well as a defensive midfielder - a position Arsenal need to strengthen.
