Another day brings yet more baffling speculation surrounding Nuri Sahin's possible move to Arsenal.

Depending on which section of the UK media you read, Sahin has either completed his medical, ahead of moving to Arsenal, or is about to be snatched by Liverpool.

The Independent newspaper, quoting unnamed sources in Germany, reports that Sahin has undergone a medical at Arsenal. An announcement of his one-year loan move to the Gunners is apparently expected within 24 hours. Sound familiar?

However, Arsenal fans shouldn't take this as a signal to get their hopes up about the prospect of seeing Sahin in Gunners red. The London Evening Standard claims Liverpool have stolen a march on Arsenal and are set to snatch Sahin from the clutches of Arsene Wenger.

Rest assured if you are confused, you are not the only one. Arsenal's protracted pursuit of Sahin is becoming more murky the closer the end of the transfer window gets.

It's clear the Gunners have a definite interest in the Real Madrid squad player. However, it seems just as clear that the negotiating process is proving extremely challenging for both clubs.

Reports of Liverpool's chances of landing Sahin have some merit. New manager Brendan Rodgers worked with Madrid boss Jose Mourinho in the past.

Mourinho has a frosty relationship with Wenger, dating back to his Chelsea days. It's hard to imagine the two conceding much ground in their dealings with one another.

Lost in this tangled web of back and forth haggling is the fact that Arsenal need fresh recruits in midfield and Sahin needs game time. For the sake of both, the deal needs to reach a speedy conclusion one way or the other, with just over a week left in the transfer window.
