According to the DailyStar, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to make a £7 million move for Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila.
The France international was a rumoured Gunners target last summer, but any deal failed to materialize as the reports suggest that Wenger refused to meet Rennes’ £25million valuation of the player.
“Arsene Wenger is ready to make a cut-price move for Yann M’Vila – because his fee has dropped by a staggering £18million.
Arsenal boss Wenger has long been an admirer of the midfielder but refused to cough up the £25m that Rennes wanted for his services.”
Although Mikel Arteta has done an admirable job in his new holding-midfielder role, Abou Diaby’s injury-concerns mean that there is virtually no reliable back-up for the Spaniard.
Added to that, the club never replaced Cameroon international Alex Song, who was sold to FC Barcelona before the end of the last transfer window. The 25-year-old added the now-lacking spark and steel in the Gunners’ midfield and was one of side's best players last term.
Even though M'Vila has stuttered this season, the 22-year-old is a quality defensive-minded midfielder and can easily flourish in the Arsenal’s style of play.
The lad himself has stated about the possibility of leaving Rennes if a club comes up with the right offer and if he likes the destination.
“I am at Rennes at the moment so let’s see what happens,” said the Frenchman.
“If the club receives a good offer and I like the destination then I will go – there is no doubt about that.”
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Theo Walcott is set to sign a new deal with Arsenal, whereas midfielder Denilson has completed his permanent switch to Brazilian side Sao Paulo.854458
