According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are prepared to sell Thiago Alcantara in order to fund a move for Chelsea's superstar midfielder Juan Mata. They also state that Manchester United are interested in signing Thiago.

These Mata rumours have been circulating all summer and now Barcelona are mentioned, things seem to be hotting up. However, Chelsea obviously do not want to sell Mata. He is their star player, their prize asset anf their top performer last season. Jose Mourinho would never have took the post if he knew that the club were about to sell their best player.

There could be a substance to the story if Chelsea were cash strapped and need the money, but we all know this is simply not the case as the Blues look to spend big again this summer having already made the acquasition of German International Andre Schurrle. Roman Abramovich is not a selling man and Chelsea are not a selling club. They are trying to bring in big names such as Edinson Cavani from Napoli, they are hardly about to let any of their own big name players leave. They're building a squad, you cannot build a property without foundations, players like Juan Mata are the clubs foundations.

I am also adament that Mata does not want to leave Chelsea, with Mourinho taking the helm and the squad looking dangerous once again, I fail to see how he would figure leaving Stamford Bridge would be a good idea, especially to Barcelona, where I struggle to see where he'd fit in with their vast array of talent.

Chelsea fans, no need to panic.
