Bayern Mnich demonstrated last night why they are the true favourite to win this year‘s Uefa Champions League Cup in Wembley Stadium London. The Bavarian defeated current Serie A league leaders Juventus 2-0 to secure a convincing 4-0 aggregate.
The visitors had to resist the initial onslaught of the Juventus who want to get an early goal to boost their chances. The Turin based team needed to score at least two goals to turn things in their favours. Juventus began the game firing from all cylinders – It was Mirko Vucinic who tried Manuel Neuer within 2 minutes of the game starting. Bayern Munich struggled to get their rhythm initially and Mario Mandzukic picked up a yellow card that will rule him out of the next game. Phillip Lahm who has been very instrument to the Munich’s success founded Mandzukic whose close range effort was deflected by a defender.
Juventus responded immediately through Adrea Pirlo as his free kick forced a save from Neuer. Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery had more of the ball on the flanks – an eye injury to Daniel Van Buyten saw Jerome boating introduced while David Alaba kept Buffon busy. After the break Neuer was called to action twice by Pirlo and Fabio Quagliarella - Robben on the other hand had his curling shot come back off the post. This was a sign of things to come as Javi Martinez effort was saved by Buffon - Mandzukic followed up with a header giving visitors the lead which at that point dashed the hopes of the Juventus. With the three goals advantage, Bayern Munich began to play with more freedom and there was still more to come as Schweinsteiger’s well timed pass found Claudio Pizarro who fired into the bottom corner to crown a well deserved victory. Bayern now joins fellow German club Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona Real Madrid and Barcelona in what could be described as an all German and Spanish Semi Finals.
