The stock of Japanese players continues to rise in the German league, no thanks to Shinji Kagawa’s exploits at Borrusia Dortmund. Another player that has made significant impact Gotoku Sakai – 21, has signed an improved contract that will keep him in VfB Stuttgart till 2016. The defender joined fellow Japanese Shinji Okazaki in January 2012 and has been very significant this season. The player has expressed his delight after putting pen to paper at the club’s winter break camp in Belek, Turkey at playing in one of the biggest league in Europe – “ I will give it my all so that Stuttgart can be as successful as possible” – said Sakai .

Fred Bobic – the Club Sporting Director highlighted the importance of signing Sakai on a long term, he expressed his delight at signing a committed and dependable player. He has developed and matured so much in the last 12 month after joining over year. Sakai is the third player within weeks to pledge his future to Stuttgart.The other players who have extended their contract are Under 23 German star Benedikt Rocker and Georg Niedermeier, their contract is till 2015 and 2016 respectively.
