Chelsea FC News: Juan Mata And The Top 3 Chelsea Players Of The Season

Chelsea have raced to the top of the premier league table. 22 points after 8 games matches the points tally that Manchester City had last season. They have played excellent attacking football all season, especially away from home at Tottenham Spurs and Arsenal. It is time to rate three best Chelsea players at this stage of the season.

1) Juan Mata- The diminutive Spaniard has undoubtedly been the pick of Chelsea's attacking talent. He has been at the heart of every forward move and has scored as well as made assists at crucial junctures to help his side stay unbeaten in the premier league. Mata was Chelsea's 'player of the year' last season and on evidence of his performance this season, it is not hard to see why. Mata has scored 3 goals and made 5 assists in 8 goals so far. His pass completion rate stands at a majestic 90% or so, a number the likes of Iniesta and Xavi would approve of.

2) Branislav Ivanovic- Ivanovic is not a natural right-back but given Bosingwa's temperamental form, he has played the role in the Chelsea side and made it his own. His game is built on solid defensive displays garnished with occasional forward bursts. Ivanovic has come into his own this season, not only retaining the defensive solidity in his game but adding goal scoring as his unlikely asset. He has helped himself to 3 goals and 1 assist in 8 games. While regular attackers like Torres, Mata, Oscar and Hazard have taken the plaudits, Ivanovic has quietly cemented his reputation as a top premier league full back.

3) Eden Hazard- Much was expected of the Belgian youngster after his big money move in the summer. He did not disappoint fans by making a blistering start to his Chelsea career. His slick interplay with Oscar and Mata has seen Chelsea's gameplay become so much more attractive. Although he is prone to having ineffectual phases during a game, he has settled nicely into the hustle-bustle of English premier league. He has scored 2 goals and provided 5 assists in 8 games so far. If Chelsea are to continue their leadership at the top of the table, Hazard would be one of the men Di Matteo would be relying on.
