Liverpool and Chelsea are looking set to lock horns in a battle to sign a stiker who is touted as being a perfect Didier Drogba replacement. It is the London club who are slightly edging the race at the moment however.
Wilfried Bony is the man in demand, the 23-year-old 6-foot tall striker is a fellow country man of Didier Drogba and has a similar build and playing style to the former Chelsea man. He also has the ability to score goals and is already on 14 goals in 15 games during his current season playing in the Dutch League for Vitesse Arnhem, making him a very sought after marksman.
Before Vitesse, Bony played for Sparta Prague and has scored an impressive 54 goals in just 122 competative appearances in his young career to date. Possessing good aerial presence and the abilities of a target man, he is just the type of player who both Liverpool and Chelsea are currently seeking.
Liverpool are relying on Luis Suarez to get their goals this season and Chelsea have been missing Didier Drogba's sheer presence since he left for China in the summer. With stiker Fernando Torres out of form it is looking seemingly likely that his Chelsea days are numberered and cut throat owner Roman Abramovich will be looking to bring in two or three strikers during the January Transfer window.
It is said that Bony should be available for around the £15 million mark, which is an attractive figure for both Chelsea, and Brendan Rodger's Liverpool. Bony however would be swayed by the ambitions of Chelsea and reports state that Chelsea and Liverpool have both been in touch with Bony's agent, exchanging words regarding potential negotiations for a move. His agent states that their is a 50% chance he will be moving in January.
Liverpool will be keen to land the striker and the decision with be down to the player, with both clubs ready to offer and attractive package for the Ivory Coast International.
