Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has been alerted by comments made by former Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola, who confirmed he is ready to coach once again during an interview on Monday.
Guardiola was allegedly approached by Chelsea after Abramovich sacked Roberto Di Matteo a few months back, but the Spaniard was taking a break from football and did not consider returning then. Chelsea since hired another Spaniard, former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez as an interim manager until the end of the season.
Abramovich has not hid his admiration for Guardiola and it is thought that he is and always has been his number one choice, many say he has been awaiting Guardiola for some time.
Meanwhile on the pitch, Benitez has had mixed fortunes since taking the reigns at Stamford Bridge and as well as some poor results, he has had to constantly battle negativity coming from the Chelsea faithful, who were outraged at the decision to sack Di Matteo, and bring in a manager who had previously made negative comments questioning Chelsea supporters passion, back when he was Liverpool boss.
Although Chelsea have had some very impressive results of late, including an 8-0 demolition of Aston Villa, Abramovich is hungry for success and is said to want to play 'the Barcelona way', which would mean bringing in the successful former Barcelona Coach.
It will not be easy for him to get his man however, with Guardiola seemingly having a number of other mouth watering options including Manchester United and Bayern Munich. He has however ruled out one of the favourites, Brazil. He stated that he feels they should have a Brazilian as their National Coach.
Not giving anything away in his interview regarding his next move, Guardiola is sure to have his phone blowing up with calls from Abramovich and his advisors, who want to bring him to Stamford Bridge, that is for sure.
