Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Re-open Talks For Edinson Cavani

Chelsea have re-opened talks with Napoli regarding their Uruguay international striker Edinson Cavani.

The club's owner Roman Abramovich already has Porto's Hulk in sight and is now looking to add more firepower in terms of an out and out central striker.

Reports emerged on Monday that Chelsea officials are back in talks with Napoli in an attempt to negotiate a deal for the 25-year-old, which will be in the region of £35 million.

Abramovich will attempt to bring the asking price down with the temptation of adding in Napoli target Raul Meireles along with the deal, he is rated at around £10 million.

Cavani is a typical goal scoring centre forward who holds an impressive record at club and international level. Being good in the air and also with the ball at his feet, he offers strength and pace and is seen as a different type of option than Fernando Torres.

Chelsea are equipped with only two recognised strikers this season and one of those is normally used as a winger. Daniel Sturridge who wants to play as a centre forward, but is used wide by Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo and Fernando Torres is all they have to offer thus far.

Supporters and club officials alike have expressed the need to add to the options. Hulk is versatile and can play as a centre forward, but again he is naturally a winger and operates better on the right side.

Officials will now decide where is best to spend the money and ponder the possibility of bringing in both Hulk and Cavani before the transfer window shuts on August 31st.
