Serie A side Napoli are currently weighing up a move for Chelsea's Portuguese International midfielder Raul Meireles.

In the meantime Napoli are touting out their star centre forward Edinson Cavani, who has been on the European Champions radar for the last month.

Chelsea had been put off a move for the Uruguayan international with Napoli demanding over £60 million for the striker, but with the fresh news that Napoli are now after Meireles, there could be a deal struck between the two clubs incorporating both players.

£8 million rated Meireles is 29-years-old and was seen as a bit of a panic buy from Liverpool during last years transfer window after failed attempts to land Luka Modric from Tottenham. He was bought for £10 million during the final minutes of the transfer window in dramatic circumstances. Although he has featured 28 times for Chelsea last season scoring 6 goals, it is said that he no longer features in manager Roberto Di Matteo's plans with the arrivel of a handful of new attacking minded midfielders.

Cavani has been wanted by Chelsea to bolster up their attacking options as they look to provide help for Fernando Torres in the centre forward spot. Napoli's chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to sell the striker to Chelsea and has even recruited an Italian FIFA agent to oversee the deal, it is said that he will now accept £35 million for him.

Napoli are looking to sign new players themselves and re-build the squad, which they wish to do from the funds that come in from Cavani, who wants to play for a club that are challenging for trophies.

Cavani is a goal scoring striker who has the ability to play anywhere across the front line. The 25-year-old has scored 49 goals since arriving at Napoli back in 2010 and is admired as one of the best all round forwards in Europe.

Chelsea will now weigh up their options and decide whether to negotiate a swap deal with Napoli, or just cash in on Meireles.
