According to various media reports on Tuesday morning, Chelsea have been scouting Lille left back, Lucas Digne, and he is reportedly flattered by the interest.
Chelsea join Real Madrid and Manchester United in a list of clubs who are tracking the 19-year old full back and with the gathering fog hovering over the head of any new deal for current left back Ashley Cole, it is looking more likely that the England international could well be heading out of Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, if a deal cannot be agreed.
The Blues have an over-30s policy in place, which means they do not offer any player over the age of 30, more than a one-year contract exntension, and Cole's contract is up at the end of this season. However, the 31-year-old wants a better contract than the extension that is being offered to him, causing talks to stall.
Chelsea have youngsters Ryan Bertrand and Patrick Van Aanholt who are both ready to step up in that position to fill the large boots of Cole, with that said however, they are also looking at options to bring in extra cover in that position, in the shape of French Ligue 1 player Digne.
Digne has been a youth player at Lille since 2005 and has recently gained his first 22 first team caps and is a regular feature in the squad. He has also featured at every level for the French youth sides from Under-15s up to Under-19s more recently, he has been ever present for every squad.
Rated very highly amongst his peers, pundits have predicted an exciting future for the all round full back, who can also play left midfield, thus making him one of the most highly rated young left backs in Europe.
