With the incoming manager David Moyes set to bring in a couple of proven performers at Old Trafford this summer, it's no surprise to see that Manchester United are being linked with a host of players by the media vultures.

Hence, what follows is International Business Times' round-up of the latest transfer rumors relating to the Red Devils.

Nampalys Mendy

Nampalys Mendy is a 20-year-old defensive midfielder, often touted as the 'next Makelele'.

The youngster is available for a free transfer this summer, having rejected a new contract from AS Monaco, and the United appear as the front-runners to secure his signature.

Moyes is keen to add defensive steel to the Red Devils' midfield and although a deal for Kevin Strootman looks certain, Mendy can be an invaluable Bosman signing.

The France international won't decide his future until later on in the summer and by then there could be several clubs competing with United to sign Mendy.

Eliaquim Mangala

The Mirror reports that Chelsea are set to beat United to the signing of Porto center-back Eliaquim Mangala.

Via Mirror:

"Manchester United face missing out on one of Europe's best young defenders after Chelsea stole a march on them in the chase for Eliaquim Mangala.

The Red Devils are after a centre-back or two this summer but with David Moyes on holiday and David Gill on the way out, the Blues have seized the moment to advance their interest in the Frenchman."

Mangala had a stellar season with Porto and his rock-solid displays at the back have earned him international recognition. Although United might lose out on the industrious 22-year-old, they are still likely to meet their defensive problems by signing Benfica's Ezequiel Garay.

Cristiano Ronaldo

The dream return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United looks seemingly impossible now as the Portugal international has revealed that he is confident of signing a new contract at Real Madrid.

United were said to be closely monitoring Ronaldo's situation at Madrid but it appears as if they won't be able bring him back to Theatre of Dreams after all.

Los Blancos' president Florentino Perez is determined to complete Ronaldo's contract negotiations in the next few of weeks.
