The French Ligue 1 is becomming well known for producing some of the best prospects around, so it is with no surpsie that both Chelsea and Arsenal are once again scouting the top tier of French football in the shape of Toulouse holding midfielder Etienne Capoue.
The 24-year-old is a French International old fashioned enforcer who is known for his tough tackling, break up play and physical presence. Having featured regularly for the French youth teams, he has recently stepped up to the senior squad making 4 appearances.
Chelsea are chasing Everton's Marouane Fellaini, but it is thought they want more muscle in midfield and could well be about to bring in both players. Fellaini and Capoue are both tall, hard battling players who offer commitement and desire, something the Blues have been missing at times this season and visibly want to add that kind of personnel.
Arsenal have been missing that type of presence themselves since losing Alex Song to Barcelona in the summer. Gunners Boss Arsene Wenger has always kept a keen eye on the French league and is an admirer of Capoue's work. However, it is the reigning European champions who have emerged as favourites to sign the young midfielder.
Toulouse have admitted that it will be near impossible to keep hold of their highly rated player and have conceded to allowing him to leave during this months transfer window, they will want a fee in excess of around £8 million, which will certainly be appealing to both Chelsea and Arsenal.
Blues owner Roman Abramovich has already bought in Demba Ba from Newcastle for a bargain price of £7.5 million and the £8 million capture of Capoue would be equally seen as a bargain.
