The Premier League season is off and running.
After a hectic summer transfer window, English clubs are busy short-listing their transfer targets for the month-long transfer season during the winters.
What follows are the latest transfer news and rumors that have been brewing up in England.
Manchester United to Scout Robert Lewandowski
According to various reports, Alex Ferguson will scout Borussia Dortmund’s striker Robert Lewandowski when the German champions play Manchester City in their second group game of the Champions League.
Lewandowski was heavily linked with United over the summer and Alex Ferguson is apparently mulling over a £20m bid for the star striker.
However, the Red Devils could have to face stiff competition from arch-rivals Chelsea for the signature of the 23-year-old as the Blues’ too are monitoring the player's progress.
Manchester City Targeting Stevan Jovetic
After failing to sign a single striker during the summer window, Manchester City are reportedly preparing a bid for Montenegro striker Stevan Jovetic in January.
City’s football development executive Patrick Vieria watched the 22-year-old international during Fiorentina’s 2-1 loss to Inter Milan over the weekend and City are now the firm favorites to land the former Partizan youth player.
However, even though Jovetic’s arrival at the Etihad Stadium will make the Sky Blues’ attack practically the best in England, any possibility of a deal looks highly unlikely until the Citizens are able to ship off either of Carlos Tevez or Edin Dzeko.
Reds Planning Contract Extension for Sterling, Suso and Wisdom
According to the Mirror, Liverpool are keen on extending the contracts of their youngsters Sterling, Suso and Andre Wisdom.
After the inability of the club to add depth to the team during the summer, the three teenagers have got numerous opportunities to play and impress for the senior team this season.
The trio has helped Liverpool turn a possible disastrous season into a one brimming with promise and hence it comes as no surprise that Brendon Rodgers new contracts for his highly-impressive youngsters.
Via the Mirror:
“Brendan Rodgers will reward the remarkable success of Liverpool's young stars by dishing out some new contracts.
“It’s funny how things work out. Maybe it’s fate," he said the manager, who was left with just two senior strikers when the summer transfer window closed. "Maybe this is all part of the story. Sometimes things happen by design, others by necessity.
“Whichever way, the plan between the window closing and January was to see how many of the young, talented players are going to be able to come into our squad - and I’ve been very, very pleased by the impact they’ve made.”
Spurs Eyeing Willian
If Italian source CalcioMercato is to be believed, then Tottenham Hotspurs could be planning a swoop for Brazilian winger Wilian in the winter transfer window.
Andre Villa-Boas had a £11.8m for the Brazilian rejected during the closing days of the summer window, but reports suggest that the former Chelsea manager has 're-ignited his inertest' in the 24-year-old.
"Italian source CalcioMercato today report that Tottenham are ready to re-ignite their interest in Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Willian.
Andre Villas-Boas had been looking to land the 24 year old Brazilian international during the summer transfer window and had reportedly moved very close to securing the talented attacker. The White Hart Lane boss brought in a number of deadline day captures but appears to still be looking to bring in the Ukrainian based flair player."
