Ukraine failed to qualify for Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup but qualified for Euro 2012 as co-hosts. Ukraine is missing key players for Euro 2012 such as goalkeeper Oleksandr Shovkovskiy and central defender Dmytro Chygrynskiy due to injury. Ukraine will be relying on the experienced duo of midfielder Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and striker Andriy Shevchenko. Ukraine does not have much else to offer and they will look to defend deep and counter attack when opportunity rises.
Lead by manager Erik Hamren, Sweden also has a tricky path ahead in order to qualify for the Quarterfinal stages of the tournament. For Sweden the key will be captain/striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic who is a huge presence in the squad. Johan Elmander will be his likely partner up front. The midfield will see pairing of Anders Svensson and Kim Kallstrom running the show. The only weak area for Hamren is defense which revolves around Olof Mellberg. Sweden has a chance to reach the quarterfinal should they defeat either England or France and defeat Ukraine in the opening match.
Key Player - Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Striker
As usual, the Three Lions are embroiled in a plethora of controversies before a major international tournament and have been hard hit by injuries to Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry.
Roy Hodgson will have an interesting team selection to make. Wayne Rooney will be missing the games against France and Sweden. Who will he start with Welbeck or Carroll?
Ashley Young is sure to start. Steven Gerrard will play a key role in midfield. Theo Walcott and Stewart Downing will be the wide men. In their defense John Terry will be a key figure alongside Ashley Cole. Should England register a victory against France or Sweden they will be almost certain for a Quarterfinal slot.
France has a good all-around team and only thing that can prevent a good show in this tournament are their field problems. For coach Laurent Blanc it is a welcome problem as has too many options for most of the places. Hugo Lloris is a fine goal keeper and an undisputed leader for the French. In defense there is a choice between Laurent Koscielny, Adil Rami and Philippe Mexes. Patrice Evra will feature in at left back. Midfield has Frank Ribery, Samir Nasri and Florent Malouda has attacking options while Yohan Cabaye and Alou Diarra will play a slightly defensive role. Upfront, Karim Benzema has been in superb form at Real Madrid and will start as the lone striker.
Key Player - Karim Benzema, striker
There is only one day to go before we kick off Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine therefore the time of endless discussions, previews and predictions is almost over. It is almost time to let the football do the talking now.
