With the Europa League strong as ever, with great European cup winning sides such as Liverpool, Marseille and Inter in it. Can the Europa League be regarded in the same light as the Champions in terms of excitement? The Europa has certainly produced some classic games since it's inaugural season in 2009-10, Athletic Bilbao produced some classic displays against Manchester United, Schalke and Sporting Lisbon. While the performances of Falcao in the competion cannot be forgotten.

What makes the Europa League interesting is it see's sides that are building for Champions League and can give pointers to whether they are ready. This season it sees manager new to their helm at big clubs, the three I mentioned earlier Inter, Liverpool and Marseille all have new managers who are trying to rebuild once big clubs in the Champions League. Stramaccioni has enjoyed a successful start in the Europa League, with seven points from nine. This has reflected in Inter's league form, which recently has signifcantly improved as they rose to third after a odds-defying 3-1 win at Juventus.

The knockout rounds again this year should be interesting, looking at the sides that might potentially drop out of the Champions League. We could see current Champions league, Chelsea amongst English Champions, Manchester City and big money Russian spenders, Zenit. This will make it all the more interesting, with already an aray of interesting sides in Anzhi, Liverpool and Lyon.

The Europa League final last year produced much more quality at times than the Champions League final, with the dramatics of penalty shootout in Munich very exciting. A marvelling display by Radamel Falcao was great entertainment in itself, as he scored three world class goals in a five star Atletico performance.
