F1 Bahrain GP: Red Bull, Vettel takes First Win of 2012

After a very disappointing start to the season, Red Bull's fortunes sure have turned.

Sebastian Vettel was visibly relived as he stood at top of the podium while the German national anthem played at the ceremony. Team Manager, Christian Horner, was also elated at the team's first pole position and win of the current season.

Vettel drove a dominate race in the desert island, that it even looked like he pushed his car, the RB8 chassis affectionately named Abbey, to its very limits because no sooner had he taken the win he park it at the end of the Pit Lane. Team mate Mark Webber placed 4th resulting in engine supplier, Renault, having the first four places being won on their RS27 engine.

Lotus also had a great race with both of its drivers completing the podium. "Iceman" Kimi Räikkönen took second tailing Vettel by only 3.3 s. Räikkönen took the position about half-way through the race after his team mate, Romain Grosjean, move over to allow his faster team mate a shot at  Vettel. This marks Kimi's first podium since his return from his Rallying stint and Romain's first in Formula One.

McLaren faced even more difficulties in the pits with Lewis Hamilton placing only 8th after starting 2nd due to having two terrible Pit Stops. One stop he spent 19 seconds - an eternity in pit stop time - due to problems with attaching his left rear tyre on both of his stops. Jenson Button had to retire with two laps left with exhaust problems that created a disheartening noise as he pulled up to the pit and retired his car.

Button's retirement was a welcomed sight for Force India's Paul di Resta who was able to run an excellent two-stop race, nearly everyone in the top ten used a 3-stop strategy, to finish a career high of 6th after starting 10th on the grid.

Williams' race ended in disappointment when Pastor Maldonado retired after spinning his car after a puncture and Bruno Senna ended his race after brake problems.

Mercedes AMG driver Nico Rosberg faces two investigations involving Hamilton and Alonso, when he ran Hamilton off the track during a passing attempt by Hamilton and a similar incident with Alonso. Michael Schumacher had a 5 place gearbox penalty and started 22nd to finish a well fought 10th place.

Four Races into the season, there are four different winners by four different team. This chaotic Formula One season heads next to Spain's Circuit de Catalunya, Fernando Alonso's home Grand Prix, on May 13th. Mid-Season testing will take place at Ferrari's Mugello Circuit in Italy for three days, starting on May 1st.
