LA Lakers vs.Clippers Preview: Steve Blake Will Battle Chris Paul In Place of Steve Nash

Los Angeles Lakers could be without Steve Nash Friday night against the Los Angeles Clippers as they try and avoid their worst start in 34 years.

Nash is doubtful for the Lakers, as he suffered a left leg contusion in the 2nd quarter in Wednesday’s game against the Portland Trailblazers. Nash is unable to go, therefore Steve Blake will start at point guard.

The last time the Lakers started 0-3 was in 1978, the season before they drafted Magic Johnson.

This will be the fourth head-to-head matchup between Howard and Clippers Blake Griffin. Howard has averaged 25.7 points and 14.0 rebounds while shooting 66.7 percent in those meetings, and Griffin has averaged 18.3 points and 12.7 boards while making 45.7 percent of his field-goal attempts.

Keep an eye on Chris Paul, as he didn’t have a good season opener, going 4-for-10 with 12 points and 12 assists. With Nash potentially out, Paul should have his way against Blake.

Lakers have struggled on defense the first 2 games, giving up 99 points to the Mavericks and 116 to Portland, ranking them 21st in the league, allowing 107.5 points per game.

The Lakers won two of three meetings last season and captured the Pacific Division by one game over the Clippers. Kobe Bryant averaged 32.3 points on 53.1 percent shooting in those contests.

Lakers are the home team Friday. The Clippers have dropped nine straight as visitors in the series.
