As we get ever closer to Christmas, more and more rumours break out about the key players that managers want to snap up in the January sales.
It does appear however, that not all is going to plan, as Arsenal and Liverpool target Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is reportedly going to snub a move to the Premier League, and instead sign a new contract with current club Schalke.
Huntelaars contract is due to expire at the end of the 2012-13 season, and since Schalke have had two contract offers rejected by the player, it opened the door to a possible move, however the German news agency “Der Westen” says Huntelaar has agreed to stay with Schalke until at least 2016. This appears to be a dampener for both the Gunners and the Reds, but no doubt the managers have many other options.
The out of favour Barcelona striker looks set to spend the second half of the season on loan, after missing the majority of last season due to injury, the world class striker has found it hard to fight his way back into the elitist Spanish side.
Arsenal have been largely linked with Villa, however at 31 years of age, he does appear to be out of Arsene Wenger’s age group for permanent signings, but on the other hand he has shown he is willing to accept older players on short term deals – such as with Thierry Henry last January.
Barcelona have been heard to say that they will not allow Villa to travel to the Emirates, even on a short-term loan, and many betting companies have tipped Swansea City to be the most likely club to capture this simply delightful player.
