As per the latest transfer rumours brewing up in Liverpool, Reds’ manager Brendon Rodgers is set to dump Spain international Pepe Reina in the winter transfer window, with youngsters Jack Butland and Ron-Robert Zieler classified as the possible replacements for the Spaniard.

As per ESPN:

“Pepe Reina has become the unwarranted target of transfer speculation, with rumours circulating that Brendan Rodgers is in the market for a new goalkeeper.

According to the Daily Mail, Rodgers is considering moves for Birmingham goalkeeper Jack Butland and German Ron-Robert Zieler, with one of them likely to be a long term replacement.

It will also be a wake up call for Liverpool's second choice 'keeper Brad Jones who relished the opportunity to step up in Reina's absence through injury.”

Once billed as Premier League’s most reliable and valuable goalkeeper, Reina has struggled for form and consistency over the past 12 months or so.

Injuries this term have only added to the 30-year-old’s woes and now he is not even the permanent first-choice ‘keeper at the Kop.

On the other hand, both Jack Butland and Ron-Robert Zieler have shown tons of promise this season and will fit well into Rodgers’s plans of creating a dynasty at the Kop.

However, as mentioned by ESPN, back-up ‘keeper Brad Jones too could be provided with an ideal opportunity to prove his worth to the club and perhaps cement his place as their new No 1, although his age and talents don’t really seem to be the Grade A material Liverpool fans desperately desire for.

In other news, it has also been stated that Liverpool are close to finalizing deal for Chelsea outcast Daniel Sturridge and are keen on re-signing now-Blackpool talisman, Thomas Ince, although Manchester United could pip their arch-rivals for the signature of the latter.
