The Europa League has thrown up an exciting match up as the seven time French League winners, Lyon face Tottenham. The French club are Champions League regulars, however a 4th place finish in Ligue 1 left them in the Europa League. This season has been impressive, Remi Garde, now in his second season is building a team that is challenging 'money-bags' PSG in the League.

In the Europa League Lyon topped Group I, finishing above Sparta Prague, who finished second. Tottenham finished second in Group J, losing out to Lazio. Andre Villas Boas has shown his great interest in winning the competition, perhaps he's rueing those missed chances against Lazio on the opening group match in a 0-0 draw. 
The round of 16 draw was also made and a repeat of the classic game at the San Siro in 2009 could repeat. As the winner of Lyon v Tottenham will face the winner of Inter v Cluj. Cluj are a team on the rise, unlucky to finish third in their Champions League group. The brilliance of Burak Yilmaz of Galatasaray, bringing Gala through to the Champions League last sixteen. 
The most interesting aspect of Lyon V Tottenham is the return of Hugo Lloris to the Stade Gerland. The French number one struggled to find a way into the Tottenham team. The Europa League gave Lloris his chance, he showed his credentials keeping Tottenham in the game in a 0-0 draw.
