Manchester City piled up the pressure on their famous neighbors with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Eastlands.
The game started with City attacking at a blistering pace but the momentum dried out slowly as the half progressed. The main threat came from Samir Nasri who had a standout chance to score but was denied by the crossbar.Mario Balotelli also wasted a glorious opportunity to put Man City in lead when he shot wide of the post after having the hard work of beating the defenders done. Manchester City's play maker David Silva was more subdued and had little to offer. On the other hand his compatriot Fernando Torres looked livelier after his return to the scoring sheet in the last week's FA cup. A lively start to the match but subsided gradually as the first half came to an end.
The second half started with Chelsea midfield building up some passing move culminating in a goal from a corner. Roberto Mancini responded with a attacking change and bringing on Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko. Man City raised the bar and were soon rewarded with a penalty. Sergio Aguero coolly dispatched it and Man City were back. A few minutes later his fellow Argentinian and the center of attraction Carlos Tevez sends an incisive pass to Samir Nasri who made it 2-1
Turning Point: When Fernando Torres left the pitch Chelsea were leading. The striker was doing his job well going forward and defensively. Somehow after his departure Chelsea lost their shape. Man City utilized the spaces in the midfield and created a lot more chances.
Key Player: Samir Nasri. The Frenchman showed his complete gamut of skills with runs on the flanks and through the center of the park. He ended the night with a match winning goal which keeps Man City in touch at the top of the table.
The race to be the Champions of England gets a lot tougher. It's all building up for Manchester Derby on April 30.
