After Wednesdays reports that Napoli forward Edinson Cavani has decided to join Chelsea over Manchester City, the big spending Manchester Club have now turned their attentions to another target, Bayern Munich's powerhouse striker Mario Gomez. The German International was also on Chelsea's radar earlier in the transfer window.
According to German source BIND, Napoli decided to agree a deal with Chelsea for Cavani, thus telling City that a deal had been agreed with another club and their negotiations folded. Other reports suggest that Cavani and City did not agree on wage demands.
City have now stepped up their pursuit of Gomez and allegedly the players agent claims that enquiries have been made and the deal is advancing. He also added that their is a number of clubs looking at the 27-year-old striker, who struggled to stay in Munich's starting eleven after losing his place to Mario Mandzukic.
New City Boss Manuel Pellegrini is searching for a world class forward to lead his attack this season and see's the area as the only position they need to add to. Fernandinho and Jesus Navas have already arrived at The Etihad Stadium this season to add to the already impressive vast array of talent on show.
Fiorentina, Napoli and Atletico Madrid are all in for Gomez, but it is thought the Premier League appeals to him the most and will decide on his future once he returns from his summer holiday.
