Back in September Aston Villa put in one of their finest perfomances since Paul Lambert took charge as they ran out 4-2 winners at the Etihad. Today the sides meet for 'round 2' as Villa look to shake off a 3-2 defeat to Manchester United, where Javier Hernandez ran the show. For most of last week's game, Villa were the better of the two, with Andreas Weimann and Christian Benteke forming a positive relationship. The Villa faithful will be hoping Benteke's mind is not elsewhere, the Belgian admitted to his desire to play for Arsenal in the week, perhaps something that isn't the most wise considering the passion in English football.
Manchester City answered the critics last week as they came from a goal down to beat Tottenham 2-1, 'super sub' Edin Dzeko scored the winning goal with minutes to go. For City, it has been a difficult few weeks or so, Mancini has been becoming increasingly frustrated with the media. However he did show his comedic side on Friday as he asked 'who do you prefer? me or David Platt. This was while wearing a David Platt mask. Apart from the madness, it showed but noted how well City played the second half last week, as David Silva ran the show in a perfomance that had the mark of Champions.
Joeleon Lescott could return to the City lineup, this could boost Mancini as Manchester City have been guilty to conceding shoddy goals from cornerkicks. It was their downfall against Ajax as Siem De Jong capitalised on more than one occasion and Steven Caulker punished them last week as he scored a free header from a set piece.
