Manchester Derby: David De Gea Or Anders Lindegaard - Who Should Be Manchester United's No.1 ?

The one question which would be weighing the heaviest on Sir Alex Ferguson’s mind would be to choose the United no.1 for the Manchester Derby – The Spaniard David De gea or the the Danish Anders Lindegaard. He has two unsettled keepers both of whom haven’t been able to impress despite getting their bunch of chances. United have conceded 33 goals so far in this season which is the 2nd worst ever after 2002 in which they conceded more than 40 goals before Christmas.

The shaky defence and a long list of the injured first team defenders such as Nemanja Vidic (out from 3 months), Chris Smalling( was out until mid November) and Phil Jones(was out till 25th November) are not the only ones responsible for United able to manage only 3 clean sheets in the 15 matches played in the league this season. The Goalkeeper plays the pivotal part and for the red devils, both have been disappointing.

Anders Lindegaard had been keeping the United net for the last 3 weeks but conceding 3 goals in the first 15 minutes against Reading last weekend made Sir Alex Ferguson ponder over his selection. So, David De Gea got his first start last night in the Champions league against CFR Cluj after November 10 hoping to swoop a clean sheet and book his place for the Manchester derby but still could not stop United from losing 1-0 despite making some good saves behind the net.

These are some of this season’s stats for both the keepers :

Matches played                   Clean Sheets                 Goals Conceded

Anders Lindegaard                      8                                        2                                     11

David De Gea                             7                                        1                                      10

Lindegaard has played against 2 good teams Liverpool and Tottenham whereas De gea has played the more difficult part – Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and Newcastle.

So, it’s a million dollar question that who’s gonna be the no.1 for the Red devils in the Manchester Derby. Whosoever gets the chance to start should take it with both hands and ensure that United get a clean sheet and must win, for this will be the greatest and the most important match of their career at this time.

If the reds win, they will go 6 points clear at the top which would be a great way heading into Christmas. So, who should you all think should start – Degea or Lindegaard??????
