High profile transfers are always protracted affairs, especially these days where Manchester United are involved, however, one of their main targets has become just a matter of time now that Roberto Mancini has officlally thrown in the towel and conceded defeat in the transfer of Robin Van Persie from Arsenal.

Fergsuon had stayed behind today instead of travelling with the team to Norway for the match against Valerenga to complete the deal for Lucas Moura. However, in a piece of pure coincidence, the Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini today conceded defeat in their attempts to coax want away Van Persie to Manchester City.

This now leaves the door open to the last man standing, i.e. Manchester United. Juventus do not have the cash to fund such a deal and in any case, Van Persie has made no secret of his desire to join United in one last attempt to win some silverware to crown an illustrious career.

Fergsuon has been bolstered by funds from the controversial shirt sponsorship deal with General Motors in the United States that saw their Marketing Executive leave due to clashes with the board over the very generous nature of the deal, particularly the fact that they are paying up front straight away, even thought the deal does not officially start until the 2014 season!

Van Persie may not be the end of the spending with Lewandowski of Dortmund also wanting to join United as disclosed last month after winning the German Bundersliga. That deal is still very much on, and once the dust has settled on the Lucas Moura and Van Persie deals, expect to see Lewandowski at Old Trafford in double quick time.
