United fans probably had to check their calendars this morning whilst reading the many reports that gold medal Jamaican sprinter and the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt wants a trial with Manchester United Football Club,.

In an interview with The Sun Bolt said "People think I'm joking but if Alex Ferguson called me up and said, OK come and have a trial, it would be impossible for me to say no. I would not take up the challenge if I didn't think I was good enough. I am a very accomplished player and know I could make a difference" said the 25-year old sprinter.

So surely United would quickly laugh this off? No. In fact, The Metro have just published that a Man Utd spokesman has confirmed that Bolt would actually be a good addition to the side.

The unkown Spokesman said "as the fastest man on the planet, he would undoubtably add speed to the team"

There has also been exchanges via Twitter between United defender Rio Ferdinand and Bolt. Rio said to Bolt "If you want that trial at Utd, shout me I'll speak to the boss" to which Bolt replied "after the Olympics we'll work on that".

Usain Bolt is a keen football player and plays during his free time. He has size 13 feet. Could he be about to use his scary pace, height and large feet to put fear into the hearts of Premier League defences?
